Got my GD2 today and had like 2 hours fun with it. When suddenly fonts became rectangles, then pixelsoup... Self-Test: "Hello-World": Finally the thing gave up in this manner: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHdICgAr8iII guess I'll have to send it back, right? Damn, I was so excited about it and already started coding :-( edit: the board was powered by usb only. I used a 12V/1A power supply to verify that the symptom is not related to usb as power source. There's nothing else connected to the board, Only the UNO and the GD2.

Wow, that's unusual! Sorry this has hit you.
Agreed, this looks like an actual hardware failure.

Ive been using my Gameduino 2 for about a month developing a simple menu system for a Brewing Controller.
These last few days the LCD started acting up (wouldn't load a jpeg (at 8kb in size), would just freeze). The serial printout would give me a r=4095 text and then nothing. Now its selftest screen shows RAM Failed. I've tried different Arduino boards (Mega 1280, Mega 2560) and the same issue.
I bought it direct from Excamera,
JamesBowman is there anything I should look into here? Is it possible to send it back for analysis / replacement?
thx for the help

If you send it back to me I can take a look. Email me (jamesb@excamera.com) and I will arrange.
Have you tried changing the power arrangements? Different USB cable and port?
This kind of failure has been always power-related; the GD2's backlight draws enough current from the USB port to make SPI communications noisy. Hence the RAM test failure.

Currently its running off of a laptop's USB output (perhaps this is part of this issue). I'll power the arduino directly and see if that makes a difference

Hey James,
You mention "the GD2's backlight draws enough current from the USB port to make SPI communications noisy".
Is this an issue if you are powering the Gameduino display from the Arduino board directly?
Would powering it externally (5v input to Vin and GND pin) help with this noise?

Yes, running it from an external 5V supply, rated for at least 300mA would be ideal.
