Hi,
Just got a Gameduino 3, looks like just what i need but very good but having trouble getting started.
Does the GD3 display anything on startup or does the backlight come on if you just power the board with 5v?
I've tried a couple of the example programs with an Arduino Micro and an ESP32 (yes, been playing with the library already) but I can't get anything to display and the backlight doesn't light.
5v is reaching the board, 3v3 is generated by voltage regulators U3 and U7 (I'm assuming some similarities between the GD3 and the GD2 schematics available online). The board takes almost no current on 5v (will measure again tomorrow with a more sensitive meter at work!)
I'd appreciate any advice.
Regards, Andrew

I'd always start with "hello world" - it has no dependencies.
The backlight is off at startup, and is lit as part of software initialization in GD.begin().
If there is something wrong with communication, then the EVE will stay in standby mode and power draw will be very tiny.
Do you have a regular footprint Arduino you can try it with?

Thanks for the response James.
Yes I'd already arranged to borrow an Arduino Uno R3, and now I've tried it and that seems to work just fine. So now I need to work out what I need to do to get it to work with the ESP32. I've already looked at the libraries, I assume I'm going to be deeply into SPI debugging. Alternative is to drive the screen from a regular Arduino and have it as slave to the ESP32 over serial or something - not quite as tidy!
