With regard to Mike's issue above with the SD card on the VM800 board. I spent a fair amount of time trying to get the same thing up and running. I was able to get GD2 running except for loading images from SD card also. I used the same setup Mike had, and I was using an SD card that works on my Gameduino2.
Has anyone solved this?
Thanks,

Hey there.
I'm somewhat of a n00b, so there's that.
Can't get SD to function with selftest example - tried two different brands of card (Patriot 2gb and Toshiba 8gb), tried different file systems (FAT16/32 and more), etc etc..
If I have a card in the slot and boot my gameduino, I get "RAM: FAIL". If I take the card out, reboot, it hangs on "storage" and occasionally gets to "SDcard" where it hangs.
Any thoughts on this? Also: FAT 16 or FAT 32? Also: What brand/capacity seems to work the best for you (anybody)?
I'm sorry if this information is readily available and I overlooked it.
Thanks a ton.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <------------ Update: Loads JPEGs just fine, maybe a little wonky occasionally.. I am left with the feeling that there may be a bug in the selftest sketch..?
(or some RFI)

Hello,
Micro SD card == Kingston 4GB,(SDC10/4GB). FAIL here. If I push the reset buttom Arduino UNO R3, I get RAM fail also... I'll try with others micro SDs, but seems the Kingston-4GB works for A.G. and not for me.
Questions: - What is the good format for the SD? FAT16, FAT32? - Its needed to power the Arduino board with other source than USB?
Thanks for your answers.

One thing that more than one person has missed is that the SDcard MUST have these files on it: excamera.com/files/Gameduino2sd.zipotherwise the selftest sketch will fail. It reads the files from the card and checks them for integrity. I test with every kind of SDcard I can find. I found one no-brand card that violates the SPI spec, but every branded card (e.g. Kingston 4GB and 8GB) passes every test. These days I test mostly with FAT32, but the driver is written to support FAT16 as well. If you mail me an microSD card that does not work, I will mail you back a guaranteed working SDcard by return. The wider variety of SDcards I can test the drivers with, the better. And you get a 100% confirmed working card back, so it's a win-win. My mailing address Excamera Labs 1946 Pescadero Creek Road Pescadero, CA USA Please remember to include your return address in the envelope. Thanks!

Hello James Bowman,
I put the files from Gameduino2sd.zip decompresed into the SD card. In PC all files are right. But the selftest fail in Gameduino2 SD. Files in SD card:
85'959 abstract.gd2 57'513 cobra.gd2 9'508 healsky3.jpg 15'335 logo.gd2 5'293'440 mesmeriz.ima 4'361 mono.gd2 77'969 night0.gd2 75'873 night1.gd2 79'781 night2.gd2 81'303 night3.gd2 76'803 night4.gd2 56'205 nightw.gd2 23'960 noisy.gd2 623 README.txt 9'151 reflection.gd2 56'076 selfie.jpg 35'639 selftest.gd2 53'380 slotgag.gd2 14'171 sunrise.jpg 58'460 tiled.gd2 219'642 tree.jpg
21 files 6'385'152 bytes
Because A.G. said this Kingston-4GB works for him and you confirm the same I think possible the problem may be in hardware.
Also "yunfei" said: "Strange, now it passed the self-test. I did nothing but just plug in and out several times. Now I am trying the 'viewer' demo. I tried to open the image 'tree'. Sometimes it is working but sometimes it just got stuck at half."
This may confirm a harware problem. What do you think?

Hi James Bowman, I'm testing the Gameduino2 with a Arduino Mega2560 R3 and using the Kingston 4GB class4 SD card. The SD card is new and works well on PC. All the sample codes without loading 'jpg' or 'gd2' are working fine. But any sample with sd card are always failed (tested by FAT32 and FAT16). In the "Selftest" utility , the screen stopped on showing "Storage". And in the "Jpeg" example, the screen was blank and dark. ... I have put the files from Gameduino2sd.zip decompresed into the SD card. I tried to keep all the wiring on mega2560 and gameduino2, and used the arduino reference "SD Library" with SPI ( www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/DumpFile ). Only changed the value of chipSelect to 9. The SD card can be read content in the file and worked well. I have tested two Gameduino2 and two sd card(both are Kingston 4GB calss4),and the problem are the same. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you~
